ABOUT SHERINGHAM

Sheringham itself is a small, pleasant and understated town which has not suffered the consequences of out-of-town shopping or commerce. The beach is of flint pebbles when the tide is high, giving way to large expanses of smooth sand as the tide recedes, and is one of the safest beaches in Norfolk. Cliffs rise on either side of the town, which has a backdrop of wooded hills, open to the public and which contain the stunning Sheringham Park, one of Repton's favourite creations. The town has a busy theatre, putting on repertory, as well as local drama, interesting films, music, children's events and workshops etc.

The golf course adjacent to the town has glorious views, with other golf courses close by. There are several pubs and cafés in the town and the two villages on either side of Sheringham both have restaurants of repute.

The North Norfolk Steam Railway heads off along the coast from Sheringham to Holt. It is a full sized steam railway, chugging through five miles of lovely countryside. A rail line heading in the opposite direction links Sheringham with Norwich and London Liverpool Street, three hours away.
